Hiring kit: IoT developer

PURPOSE
The Internet of Things is going to disrupt how just about everything industrial works. To keep up, companies need to find personnel skilled in programming sensors and other networked devices. This hiring kit for an IoT developer, courtesy of TechRepublic Premium, will narrow the field of candidates for you.

From the hiring kit:

DETERMINING FACTORS, DESIRABLE PERSONALITY TRAITS AND SKILLSETS
Just like any other application developer, IoT developers design, program and test applications created for a specific operating system, platform or device. However, IoT developers are often required to create applications that can run on a specific device under specific conditions. Such applications must be able to adjust to each device’s unique requirements, which means the developer must anticipate and compensate for environmental issues.

IoT application development is a relatively new area of expertise for software engineers. Candidates for these positions should be able to demonstrate an inherent ability to think beyond traditional limitations. A programmer who can visualize the IoT device and its functionality operating within what can sometimes be a hostile environment will be much more effective in the long run. Depending on your desired level of expertise, candidates for an open IoT developer position should be able to demonstrate instances when they designed, coded and implemented a unique IoT solution or at least worked on a team that did.
